Lift your glass and make a toast, cause tonight we’re celebrating the bohemian ideals of freedom, beauty, truth and love at non-other than the Moulin Rouge. Courtesans, poets, business men, magicians, artists, exotic dancers, fire jugglers, actors, and hopeless romantics are all invited within the doors of one of the greatest night clubs of all time. Together we will muse upon the Sparkling Diamond and chase the elusive green fairy as we dance into the eve of revolution. For as all blues dancers know, a revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having.
Food:
The Harry Zidler “Cabaret Cabernet”: a man larger than life, this succulent beef stew is made with a bold Cabernet Sauvignon and served with a creamy horseradish creme fraiche to bring out the french accents of the evening
The Toulouse-Couscous: in honour of Toulouse Lautrec, the artist who walked hand in hand with the Moulin Rouge, this earthy grain dish brings with it the exotic flavors of apricots, currants. saffron and pistachios. (Vegetarian)
The Elephant Salad Medley: inspired by the Hodge-poge collage of love songs sung upon the great elephant the night club is known for, this garden salad is dressed with the unique dressing of fennel, orange, lemon, dill and cress. (Vegetarian)
Drinks:
The Green Fairy: in authentic fashion of the bohemian artists of Paris, we will be chasing the “green fairy” by drinking none other than absinthe the way it was originally meant to be drunk. (Absinthe is not a hallucinogenic despite misconceptions, and is now legal in the US)
The Sparkling Diamond: This drink goes out to the captivating courtesan Satine, a sparkling blend of champagne and limoncello liqueur.
The Moulin Rouge: a fan favorite, this delicious strawberry balsamic martini captures the flavor and hue of the infamous night club.
